The Bible as History

The New Encyclopedia Britannica calls the Bible “the most influential collection of books
in human history”.

Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, called the Bible “the best gift God has ever given to man … but for it we could not know right from wrong”.

However, during the 18th and 19th centuries, certain academically minded Christians began to question the Bible’s historical accuracy. These scholars became known as “higher critics” and claimed much of the Bible was composed of legend and myth.

Even in the 21st Century, higher criticism is still taught in the seminaries of Christendom. It is far from unusual to hear prominent clergymen publicly disavow large sections of the Bible. One Anglican minister was recently quoted in an Australian newspaper as saying “… the Bible is just wrong! The history is wrong. The details are garbled”.

Is this true?

How historically accurate is the Bible?

Can we base our faith and confidence on its historical reliability?

The TWO DVD ROM Collection: “The Bible as History” provides exhaustive evidence from reliable historical and archaeological sources that the Bible is completely accurate and totally reliable in every detail and in every statement that it makes.

The material featured on the DVD ROMS available on this page is in the PUBLIC DOMAIN.

Bible Prophecy: The Historical Evidence

Few things strengthen the faith of a Christian more than a serious consideration of Bible
prophecy.

Bible prophecy has been described as “history written in advance” and the bible student soon learns the truth of these words when he undertakes an objective review of the evidence.

However, many sceptics of the bible (including many archaeologists) challenge the prophecies of the bible, claiming many were written after the event … or never happened at all!

How can we satisfy ourselves that Bible prophecy is indeed true and accurate?

One way is to consider carefully the wealth of historical and archaeological evidence that has been accumulated, that directly relates to the specific prophecies recorded in sacred scripture.

The purpose of this DVD ROM is to provide an exhaustive resource featuring many historical, geographical and archaeological reference works that support and confirm the unerring accuracy of the sacred writings.

These books (all PDF) are supplemented by interesting video and audio presentations.

Biblical Archaeology: Bible History Buried in the Earth

Biblical archaeology is the study of the peoples and events of the Bible through the intriguing record buried in the earth.

The archaeologist digs up and analyses rock, ruined walls and buildings and shattered cities as well as uncovers pottery, clay tablets, written inscriptions, tombs and other ancient remains or artefacts, from which he gleans information. Such studies improve understanding of the circumstances under which the Bible was written and under which ancient men of faith lived, as well as the languages they and the people around them employed.

Biblical archaeology has greatly expanded our knowledge of all the regions touched by the Bible: Palestine, Egypt, Persia, Assyria, Babylonia, Asia Minor, Greece and Rome.

However, Biblical archaeology is a relatively new science.

Only in 1822 did decipherment of the Rosetta Stone unlock Egyptian hieroglyphics. Assyrian cuneiform was decoded more than 20 years later, and systematic excavations were begun in Assyria in 1843 and in Egypt in 1850. In modern times, huge excavations have taken place in and around Jerusalem and the surrounding districts with news reports constantly featuring important new and exciting discoveries … all of which confirm the truth and reliability of the inspired word of God (Rom 3:3,4).

The purpose of the DVD ROM (computer use only):

“Biblical Archaeology – Bible History Buried in the Earth”

… is to provide a huge repository of Biblical and scientific reference works which help us to comprehend the profound accuracy and historicity of the Bible record, which never fails to confound its critics but fill its admirers with appreciation for its divine author. Preserving The Bible Canon

The Beinecke Gutenburg Bible

The collection or list of books accepted as genuine and inspired Scripture is often referred to as the Bible Canon.

Canonical books are those that are true and inspired and worthy to be used in determining right faith, doctrine and proper conduct.

However in the early centuries of the common era, fierce debates arose as to what books should be included in the sacred Canon and what should not.

Many argued for the inclusion of “apocryphal books” that may have had certain merits as historical works but were certainly not inspired writings.

Others went so far as to include spurious works, that were frequently fanciful, inaccurate and promoted pseudo – Christian apostate ideas such as gnosticism.

So how was the divine catalogue of inspired works preserved in the face of such determined efforts to corrupt it?

The purpose of this DVD ROM is to provide a huge resource of biblical reference works which help us understand how these issues of canonicity were debated and resolved, and how Holy Spirit ensured only truly inspired sacred writings were left remaining in the book that we now call the Bible.

The DVD also features a huge collection of major Bible translations for your digital theocratic library, together with over 50 of the so-called “Lost Gospels” and non-canonical books that tried … and failed to stand alongside the truly inspired books of sacred scripture.

There are also many hours of audio and video presentations for you to enjoy.

The First Book of Maccabees is a book written in Hebrew by a Jewish author after the restoration of the independent Jewish kingdom, about the latter part of the 2nd century BC. The book is held as canonical scripture by some Christian churches (including Catholic, Orthodox and Coptic churches), but considered as apocryphal by the rest. It is however regarded by all as a book of great historical interest, but has no real religious significance

Canon of Athanasius. Athanasius of Alexandria (A.D. 296-373) was the most prominent theologian of the fourth century, and he served as Bishop of Alexandria. His list of canonical books was published as part of his Thirty-Ninth Festal Epistle of A.D. 367. After the list he declares, “these are the wells of salvation, so that he who thirsts may be satisfied with the sayings in these. Let no one add to these. Let nothing be taken away.”
