Volume 2

The Photodrama Rediscovered

The “Photodrama of Creation” was a revolutionary combination of moving pictures and slide presentations synchronized with musical recordings and phonograph record talks.

About 8 hours in length, it was presented in four parts. The Photodrama premiered in January 1914 at The Temple on West 63rd Street in New York City to an audience of 5000 enthusiastic Bible Students, with many others having to be turned away.

The audience watched in amazement as they saw Pastor Russell (then in his early 60’s) appear on a large motion picture screen. His lips began to move and his words could be heard – remember this was the era of silent movies !

As the presentation continued, those in attendance were taken on an incredible journey, by means of words, color pictures and music – from earths creation to the end of Christ’s Millennial Reign. During the presentation they also saw (by means of time lapse photography) other things that astounded them – the unfolding of a flower, the hatching of a chick and many other marvels of creation. They were truly impressed !

Carefully re-assembled and remastered with infinite patience, “The Photodrama Rediscoverd” presents all the coloured slides, the movie, the records and the spoken narrative of this Eight Hour Epic!

Much, recently discovered new material has been added and previously unclear and poor quality sections of the presentation replaced with crystal clear, digitally enhanced material.

Previous black and white video footage has been replaced with newly discovered colour film, which only received a limited showing in the larger cities during the original 1914 showings.

If you have never seen or heard the Photodrama – this DVD ROM (which can be played only on a computer unless your TV DVD recorder can play MP4 files) will bring you enormous pleasure and satisfaction as you watch in the comfort of your home a real piece of theocratic history.

Also included with “The Photodrama Rediscovered” is a new  “Special Features” section containing a treasure trove of theocratic memorabilia and beautiful Photodrama nostalgia.

These include:

– All three versions, of the Photodrama Book presenting a full transcript of  the entire Photodrama presentation accompanied by many of the full colour slides and illustrations.

– The Photodrama Talk – the whole 8 hour presentation as a continuous  audio narrative (mp3).

– The Photodrama Postcards – the entire collection produced by the early Bible Students to advertise the Photodrama. Each card featured a beautiful full colour picture on the front and a delightful Bible narrative on the reverse.

– The Photodrama Slides – all the slides presented as individual jpg images as well as collected into a 3 volume PDF file … ideal for careful viewing on an iPad or tablet.

– The Photodrama Picture Gallery, Videos , News Reports from 1914 and much more!

“The Photodrama Rediscovered” is DVD ROM you will treasure and enjoy watching time and again yourself … but also with any friends or family who appreciate our great Spiritual Heritage, but may never have had the opportunity to see the Photodrama before now.

Even if you have already seen the Photodrama, the “Photodrama Remastered” is a greatly improved version not to be missed and will certainly be a great asset for your digital theocratic library.

“Educate, Educate, Educate” : The Nathan Knorr Years (1942 – 1977)

On 8th January 1942, Joseph F Rutherford died.

At that time, at the height of the second world war, 51 nations had either banned or severely restricted the work of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Nathan Homer Knorr was duly appointed as the next president of the Watchtower Society. He decided to take the organization down a very different path to the confrontational approach of his predecessor.

His focus and that of Jehovah’s Witnesses worldwide would be education … of both themselves and the deserving ones they encountered in their ministry, who appreciated the Bible and thirsted for accurate knowledge and truth.

Theocratic Schools were set up, including the Theocratic Ministry School for the congregations (in 1942) and the Gilead School for Missionaries (in 1943).

The era of theocratic education was soon well under way, and during the 35 years that Brother Knorr took the lead in the organization, many other schools and training facilities were set up,  and an incredible 315 new publications were published. These included a new, accurate, modern translation of the Holy Scriptures, a Bible Encyclopedia (“Aid to Bible Understanding”) and a small pocket size book that taught basic Bible truths in a very simple and easy to understand way … that quickly became the most widely distributed Bible study textbook of all time (“The Truth that Leads to Eternal Life”).

Educate Educate, Educate”: The Nathan Knorr Years” is a massive 5 DVD ROM collection (over 20GB of material – computer use only ) that features:

– All 315 Publications published during 1942 to 1977. All are high quality scans of the originals, featuring all the photographs, art work, maps, charts etc … digitally restored and fully illustrated.

Watchtower Movies : 1914 – 2001

Since 1914, the Watchtower Society has been producing full length movies to assist in the understanding of Bible truth and to present the kingdom message in a positive and appealing way.

“The Photodrama of Creation” was presented to the public in cinema auditoriums and in theatres … millions flocked to see it.

During the 1950’s through to the 1990’s, full length movies were shown by travelling representatives of the society at Kingdom Halls and in other hired locations. The movies were in 16mm format and shown on projectors, often with the “soundtrack” being read live from a script by the Circuit or District overseer.

Many of these movies, such as “Divine Will Convention (1957)” and “Proclaiming Everlasting Good News Around the World” (1963) (shown above) were thought lost, as 16mm film degrades if not carefully stored.

However, recently a huge complete collection of these “cinematic treasures” were discovered after the death of a brother in the United States.  These movies have now been patiently converted to digital mp4 format so all can watch and enjoy them.

With the arrival of VHS tapes, this medium was quickly employed by the organization to distribute full length moving pictures. Some have been digitized and can still be seen at jw.org. Many others are no longer available … and quite hard to find in their original format.

“Watchtower Movies: 1914 – 2001” is a double DVD ROM set that presents for the first time, all 23 full length movies,  in beautifully restored digital, MP4 format. (Computer use only). Over 60 hours of faith strengthening material … from the “Photodrama of Creation ” (1914) to  “Faithful Under Trials” (2001).
